Meet the Playwrights

Photo of playwright David MeyersDavid Meyers is a playwright and actor based in New York and New Jersey. His plays have been seen off-Broadway at the Abingdon Theatre Company and the Platform Group, at the Lark Play Development Center, and regionally in New York, New Jersey, Washington, DC, and Minneapolis. His play The Bus Test was most recently named a finalist in the Colonial Players New Play competition. He is a member of the monthly playwrights group at the Abingdon Theatre Company, and is also affiliated with several other companies in New York. Some of his Web parodies have appeared on Funny or Die and elsewhere.

David’s The Promised Land will be read on Wednesday, May 15 at 7pm in Summit.

As an actor, David has worked with numerous theaters in New York and New Jersey, including the Tri-State Actors Theater and The Growing Stage. Other recent credits include New Georges, Nylon Fusion Collective, the Crest Theater, and Shakespeare in the Garden. He most recently appeared in the feature film “Campus Life” starring Jesse McCartney and directed by Catherine Scorsese, and shot a recurring role in a Web series created by the producer of the Jamie Foxx Show.

Previously David spent four years working in Washington, DC, as a communications aide in the White House and a speechwriter in the U.S. Senate. He still writes on international affairs for newspapers such as The Jerusalem Post, The Diplomat, The Washington Times, FOX News, The Times of Israel, and The Newark Star-Ledger. Photo of playwright Suzanne BradbeerDavid Lee White is thrilled to be working again with the amazingly talented and generous Dreamcatcher Rep, where his Blood: A Comedy played to sold out houses and critical acclaim in March of 2012. David is the associate artistic director of Passage Theatre Company in Trenton. His play Slippery as Sin premiered there in May of 2012. His play White Baby was produced by Emerging Artists Theatre in NY in 2010.

David’s Real True Crime will be read on Wednesday, May 22 at 7pm in Summit.

Other produced one-acts include Backfire and The Ask. David’s play for teens, If I Could, In My Hood, I Would..., has been produced several times in Trenton and Newark and has been produced for the past six years at the South Carolina Children's Theatre. David also created with June Ballinger the oral history based play Trenton Lights and is currently working on a follow-up about race and identity in the city of Trenton. David is the author of the novel Fantomas in America, published by Black Coat Press. He is also a founding member of the Passage Theatre Play Lab, which develops, workshops and showcases work by NJ area playwrights. Visit David’s Web site
