DISTRACTED by Lisa Loomer. Does Jesse have ADHD or is he just being a kid? - performing at a special location at Playwrights Theatre in Madison, NJ

We have a new venue to present another New Jersey premiere of an off-Broadway hit. Dreamcatcher Rep is presenting the dramatic comedy Distracted, by Lisa Loomer, at Playwrights Theatre in Madison from March 4 to March 20, 2011. While the Baird Center is closed for repairs, Playwrights Theatre has generously volunteered to co-produce and they’ve invited us to relocate to their home in Madison for the run of the show.

In Distracted, according to his teacher and a slew of specialists, nine-year-old Jesse has a problem. But is it ADHD or just normal boyishness? As his parents navigate the complicated world of medical and alternative treatments, they confront the possibility that it’s not just Jesse who’s distracted—it’s our entire culture.

Distracted was a hit off-Broadway last season, where audiences responded to its humor and relevance, making it one of the year’s most popular shows. The Associated Press called it “a smartly comic, sharply observant and surprisingly humane play.” The reviewer at Time Out New York proclaimed it “my favorite comedy of the year!”
