Dreamcatcher’s Summer Theatre Conservatory is a four-week training program for young performers that runs during the month of July. Each week of the program focuses on a different aspect of the actor’s craft, and the topics covered in the Summer Theatre Conservatory vary every year.
The STC is an enjoyable way for students aged 10 to 17 to explore their interest in the performing arts during their summer vacation. Professionals in their field teach all classes, and students receive individual attention, constructive feedback, and the support needed to achieve their personal goals. Participants can tailor the program to suit their preferences, attending the conservatory for one, two, three or all four weeks.
At Dreamcatcher’s Summer Theatre Conservatory, we believe in having fun while developing real skills under the guidance of professionals in the field. Emphasis is placed on individual attention, constructive feedback, and the achievement of personal goals.
Classes
Classes are held Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm at Dreamcatcher’s home at the Baird Center, 5 Mead Street in South Orange. Last year’s conservatory included classes in Acting Technique, Improv Comedy, Stage Combat, Voice, Theatre Dance, and Shakespeare, among other topics.
Week 1, ACTORS’ WORKSHOP (July 1 – 8) provides a strong foundation for any of the following sessions, focusing on the building blocks of acting: vocal and physical preparation, acting technique, and scene study.
Week 2, MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP (July 11 – 15) will include classes in acting technique as well as in musical theatre dance and singing, with the opportunity to combine all of the skills each day.
Weeks 3 & 4, DREAMCATCHER JUNIOR – Create & perform a show (July 18 – 22 & 25 – 29) is a two-week journey in which students create a show from scratch with their instructors, rehearse it, and present it to the public July 30-31. During the program students will develop their skills and creative talents as an ensemble under the guidance of a professional director.
Students from previous summers commented: “All the subjects that I liked were included in these weeks!” and “I learned a lot of new things that will make me a better actress.” One participant raved: “It was great! I had a ton of fun!”
