Classes are held Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm at Dreamcatcher’s home at the Baird Center, 5 Mead Street in South Orange. The STC is an enjoyable way for students to explore their interest in the performing arts during their summer vacation. Professionals in their field teach all classes, and students receive individual attention, constructive feedback, and the support needed to achieve their personal goals. Week 1, the Actors’ Workshop (July 9 – 13), provides a strong foundation for any of the following sessions, focusing on the building blocks of acting: vocal and physical preparation, Acting Technique, and Scene Study. Week 2, the Musical Theatre Workshop (July 14 – 18), will include classes in Acting Technique as well as in Musical Theatre dance and singing. Week 3, Writing for the Stage (July 21 – 25), will guide young writers through the process of creating their own short play script. Week 4, STC Showcase (July 28 – August 1), will provide students with the opportunity to apply their skills in putting up a no-frills play that showcases their individual talents. Students from previous summers commented: “All the subjects that I liked were included in these weeks!” and “I learned a lot of new things that will make me a better actress.” One participant raved: “It was great! I had a ton of fun!” The cost of the program is $200 for one week, $360 for two weeks, $510 for three weeks, and $640 for all four weeks, with limited scholarships available.
